If you want to be swimming by summer, timing matters. Here’s what a typical custom pool project looks like in Temecula Valley — from the first consultation to the first cannonball — so you can plan ahead and avoid surprises.
Phase 1: Consultation and Design (1–3 weeks)
We start with a free on-site visit to measure your yard, check access, review slope and drainage, and talk about how your family wants to use the space. From there we develop a design and an itemized estimate. Most of the time spent here is in your hands — reviewing options and making decisions.
Phase 2: HOA Approval and Permits (2–6 weeks)
If you live in an HOA community like Wolf Creek, Harveston or Audie Murphy Ranch, the architectural committee usually needs to approve the plans first. We then submit engineered plans to the City of Temecula, Murrieta, Menifee or Riverside County, depending on where you live. Review times vary by city and season, which is why starting early helps.
Phase 3: Excavation and Steel (1–2 weeks)
Once permits are issued, we lay out the pool and dig. Rock or hard soil can add time. Then a steel rebar cage is set to the engineered spec, followed by a city inspection.
Phase 4: Plumbing, Electrical and Gunite (1–2 weeks)
Plumbing lines, lights and equipment runs are installed and inspected. The gunite shell is then sprayed and needs time to cure, which is when it gains its strength.
Phase 5: Tile, Coping, Decking and Features (2–4 weeks)
Waterline tile and coping go on, followed by decking, water features and any spa finishing. If your project includes landscaping, an outdoor kitchen or a fire pit, those are scheduled alongside this phase.
Phase 6: Interior Finish, Fill and Start-Up (about 1 week)
The plaster, quartz or pebble finish is applied, the pool is filled and the water is balanced during start-up. We walk you through the equipment and maintenance so you’re ready to enjoy it.
Best Time to Start a Pool in Temecula
Spring and early summer are the busiest seasons for pool builders across Southwest Riverside County. Homeowners who start planning in the fall or winter typically get earlier construction dates and are swimming before the summer heat arrives. Temecula’s mild climate means construction can continue nearly year-round.
